Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE,the Games of the Future 2025 is taking place inside ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 18-23 December, demonstrating how sport and technology is converging to create engrossing, elite competition.
On the second day of action, Team Winbecame the landmark event’s first grand final winners in the MOBA PC.Dota 2 discipline, defeating Vikings 2-0 and emerging as champions of the eight-team competition. With the two teams of heroes working to destroy each other’s main base, teamwork and strategy is always essential, and it was Team Win that came out on top to claim their share of the US$175,000 prize pool.
“We’re thrilled to win the first trophy at this event – it felt easy to be honest and we’re really happy with how we played,” said Win’s Hard Support,Rastsislau Rostik Pratasenia. “Our strategy was simple: Just go out there and win. Now, we’re looking forward to our next challenge in Astana, Kazakhstan.”
On the final evening of Battle Royale.Featuring Fortnite, a fast-paced esports discipline where clubs compete in an intense 20-team, duo-format of knock-out matches, the clubs faced off for a second consecutive night, knowing that whoever topped the leaderboard come the end of the evening would also walk away a champion – and recipient of the lion’s share of a US$700,000 prize pool. Battle of Robots drew excited crowds once again, as spectators turned out to watch clubs’ creations fight to the death. Postponed from the opening evening, GOLDEN FURY – the menacing machine of PY ROBOTICSZ – unleashed a relentless attack on Toon’s TR4, using its vertical spinner to quickly scythe and flip its opponent onto its back. Showing impressive movement to recover, TR4 continued but GOLDEN FURY was unforgiving, disabling its opponent before performing celebratory doughnuts in the centre of the ring.
“It was an amazing fight,” said Logeshwaran Balasundaram of PY ROBOTICSZ. “We expected this initially so what happened was no surprise. It was supposed to happen yesterday, but we had an issue with our robot, so we could not start the match and got time to see what we could do as a team. We spoke a lot and worked on it since the morning. What we saw tonight was a perfect fight.”
In the Phygital Football powered by ADNOC, a prime example of how this week’s event is bringing the digital and physical worlds together, there was an unbelievable game of two halves as Z10 came back from a 0-4 loss in the digital clash against United FC to win 4-0 in the physical encounter. With the overall tie ending at 4-4, Z10 then won 2-1 on physical penalties to secure the win.
